Édouard and Luce were from St-Jean-Port-Joli, Québec. After marrying in 1827, they moved to Rivière-du-Loup, up the St. Lawrence. Around 1839 they and their six children moved to the upper St. John River valley in northern Aroostook County, Maine, settling in what would become St. John Plantation, just east of St. Francis.
