He was married to Sophie BOSSÉ (daughter of Louis BOSSÉ and Anastasie DIONNE) on 3 Nov 1846 in Cacouna, Québec.

(37.) Sophie BOSSÉ was born about 1829 in Canada.⁽⁵⁾

They appeared in the 1860 US census in Township 18, Range 5 (now Frenchville/Ste-Agathe), as Louis Terdis, age 35, farmer, born in Canada, could not read or write, and Sophie Terdis (28) living with Mary (12), Thomas (11), Antoine (10), Louis (5), Simon (4), and Mary (2 months).

They appeared in the 1870 US census in Dickeyville (now Frenchville/Ste-Agathe) as Louis Tardy, age 45, farm laborer, born in Canada, unable to read or write; and Sophia Tardy, age 45, "keeping house," born in Canada, unable to read or write, living with children Mateid (20), Eliza (18), Xavier (17), Matilda (15), Sophia (10), Louis (8), and Joseph (4) (the census keeper seems to have mixed up the names of their sons).[source: 1870 US census, Aroostook Co, ME, Dickeyville, pp.63b-64a] 

They appeared on the 1880 US census in Frenchville, Maine, as Louis Tardiffe, age 57, farmer, couldn't read or write, born in Canada, and Sophia Tardiffe, age 51, "keeping house", couldn't read or write, born in Canada, living with sons Louis (age 25), Simeion (23), Paulette (17), Xavier (12), and Bellonie (6).⁽⁴⁾

Louis TARDIF and Sophie BOSSÉ had the following children:

  iv. Méthaïde TARDIF was born about 1850. She appeared in the 1870 US census as Mateid Tardy, age 20.
+ v. Antoine TARDIF.
   vi. Eliza TARDIF was born about 1852. She appeared in the 1870 US census as Eliza Tardy, age 18.
+ vii. Louis TARDIF.
   viii. Joseph Nermidas TARDIF⁽⁷⁾ was born on 8 Sep 1852. He was baptized on 12 Sep 1852 in Ste-Luce Church, Frenchville, Maine. ⁽⁷⁾ Godparents were Bruno Ouellette and Domithelite Beaulieu. He died on 27 Aug and was buried on 28 Aug 1854 in Frenchville, Maine.⁽⁷⁾
   ix. Matilda TARDIF was born about 1855. She appeared in the 1870 US census as Matilda Tardy, age 15.
+ x. Simon (Simonet) TARDIF.
   xi. Sophie TARDIF was born about 1860. She appeared in the 1870 US census as Sophia Tardy, age 10.
   xii. Joseph Armidas TARDIF was born on 5 Sep 1858 in Upper Frenchville, Maine. He was baptized on 10 Sep 1858 in Ste-Luce church, Upper Frenchville, Maine by Fr. C. Swéron. ⁽⁷⁾ His godparents were Edouard Martin and Marie Dionne. He died on 14 Jun 1859 and was buried the following day at Ste-Luce church.
  xiii. Hyppolite TARDIF was born and baptized on 21 Sep 1862 in Upper Frenchville, Maine (his godparents were Frederic Desrosier and Clementine Bossé). ⁽⁸⁾ He appeared in the 1870 US census as Louis Tardy, age 8 (the census taker seems to have mixed up his name with brothers Louis and François-Xavier). He appeared on the 1880 US census in Frenchville, Maine as Paulette Tardiffe, age 17, single, working on farm, born in Maine, living with parents Louis and Sophia. ⁽⁹⁾
