This family appears in the 1840 US census, in Madawaska North of the St.John River, on p.48 (line 17); and in the 1851 New Brunswick census in St-Basile, on page 8 .  Here are details:

James Smith:
Name originally spelled Smyth. Birthdate estimated between 1807 and 1812, in Donegal County, Ireland. Parent's names were Matthew Smyth and Esther Ramsay. James died on March 24, 1891 in St. Basile, New Brunswick of old age. He married Marguerite June 6, 1836 in St. Basile.

Margaret Smith
Her birth name is Marguerite Violet. She was born in 1812 in St. Basile, New Brunswick. She died on June 23, 1876 in St. Basile, New Brunswick. Her parents names' were Augustin Violet and Elisabeth Cyr.

Their children:

Charles F. Smith
Charles was born March 31, 1837 in St Basile. He married Catherine Martin (daughter of Jean Baptiste Martin and Catherine Burns) on Feb. 22, 1870 at St. Basile, New Brunswick.

James Smith
James was born in 1838 in St. Basile. He married Eleonise Cyr on May 10, 1887 at Grand Isle Plantation, Aroostook County, Maine.

Henry Smith
Henry (sometimes spelled with an I) was born in 1839 in St. Basile. He married Methaide Cyr on February 7, 1897 at St. David, Aroostook County, Maine.

Thomas Smith
Thomas was born in 1841 in St. Basile. He married Modeste Cyr on February 14, 1871 at St. Hilaire, New Brunswick.

Augustus Smith
I do not have any information on him.

Mary Smith
I do not have any information on her.

Margaret Smith
I do not have any information on her.

Sophia Smith
Sometimes written Sophie or Sofie, she was born in 1847. She married Beloni Violet (son of Rosimond Violet and Nancy Rose Cyr) on August 1, 1875 in St. Basile, New Brunswick.

Bernard Smith
Sometimes written Barney, he was born in 1848. He married Flavie Ouellet (daughter of Andre Ouellet and Eleonore Fournier) on Nov 4, 1881 in St. Basile, New Brunswick.

William Smith
I do not have any information on him.

Frederic Smith
Frederic, sometimes written Frank, Alfred was born in 1856. He married Euphemie Morneault (daughter of Charles Morneault and Flavie Thibodeau) in Grand Isle, ME on March 4, 1889.
