Alexis Cyr and Victoire Thériault


140. Alexis CYR was born about 1777, probably somewhere in New Brunswick.(407) He died on 6 Mar 1842 and was buried the next day at St-Basile, New Brunswick.

Alexis CYR appeared in the 1820 US census of Matawascah Parish, as Elecis Cyr.

He appeared in the 1830 US census of Madawaska, as Alexr. Cere, living in a household aged 40-50, with one male 15-10, another male 20-30, a female 30-40, a female 5-10, two females 10-15, and one female 15-20 (p.380).

In the 1833 New Brunswick census of Madawaska (p.3), Alexis and his wife are living in the household of their sons Frederick, Benoni and Vital, along with four of their daughters. 

Alexis appeared in the 1840 US Census of Aroostook Co., Maine, in Madawaska North of the St.John River (now in New Brunswick), as Alexis Cyr, head of a household that included one male aged 10-14, three males aged 15-19, two males aged 60-70, one female aged under 5, one female aged 5-9, two females aged 10-14, two females aged 15-19, one female aged 20-29, and one female aged 30-39.(p.51)

He was married to Victoire THÉRIAULT on 25 Apr 1804 in St-Basile, New Brunswick.(30)

141. Victoire THÉRIAULT was born in 1781. She died in 1836.

child iii. Marguerite CYR was born in 1800. She was married to Raphael MICHAUD (son of Michel MICHAUD and Francoise MIGNIER-LAGACÉ) on 18 Feb 1828 at St.Basile church. Raphael is in the 1830 US census in Madawaska, p.375. He is in the 1833 New Brunswick census of Madawaska on p.3. Raphael died between 1840 and November 1842. Marguerite was married a second time to Anselme ALBERT (son of Joseph ALBERT and Demerise LAGACÉ) on 22 Nov 1842 at St. Basile church. She appeared in the 1850 US census in Hancock Plantation as Margarett Albert, living with Anselme, his brother and sister-in-law Raphael and Julie Albert, and his sister Arthemise. She appeared in the 1860 US census in Township 18, Range 6 (now eastern part of Fort Kent) as Margaret Albert, living with Anselme and 10 year old Margaret. She died in 1880.

child v. Urbain CYR was born in 1808. He was married to Modeste VIOLETTE (daughter of François VIOLETTE and Marguerite FOURNIER) on 14 Feb 1831 at St-Basile. He appeared in the 1831 survey of the Madawaska Settlement, on the north bank of the St.John River. He appeared in the 1833 New Brunswick census of Madawaska. He appeared in the 1851 New Brunswick census in St-Leonard parish. He married a second time to Modeste CYR (daughter of Lorion CYR and Charlotte TARDIF) on 10 Nov 1855 at St Bruno Church, Van Buren, Maine. He died in 1868.
child vi. Bénoni CYR was born in 1808. He was married to Anastasie LIZOTTE (daughter of Pierre LIZOTTE and Marguerite CYR) on 18 Feb 1828.  He appeared in the 1830 US census in Madawaska, living in a household with a girl under the age of 5. Apparently Anastasie had died before the census.  In the 1833 New Brunswick census he is living in a household with one daughter, as well as with his brothers Frederick and Vital, as well as his parents and 4 sisters, on the right (south) bank of the St.John. In the 1840 US census he is living on the north bank of the St.John in a household with a 10-15 year old girl (probably his daughter Flavie), a 10-15 year old boy, and a 30-40 year old woman.  He was married a second time to Marie-Josette CYR (daughter of Firmin CYR and Euphrosine CYR) on 23 Nov 1841 at St-Basile church. He appHe appeared in the 1851 New Brunswick census, where he and his family are living in St-Basile. He died in 1865.
child vii. Élie CYR was born in 1809. He was married to Suzanne CYR (daughter of Jean-Marie CYR and Marie MARTIN) on 24 Feb 1829 in St-Basile church. He appeared in the 1831 survey of the Madawaska settlement on the north bank of the St.John, not far from the Siagis River. He appeared in the 1833 New Brunswick census of the Madawaska Settlement. In the 1840 US census of Madawaska, he is living on the north bank of the St.John. In the 1851 New Brunswick census, he and his family are living in St-Leonard parish.
child viii. Frédéric CYR was born in 1810. He appeared in the 1833 New Brunswick census of Madawaska in a household with his brothers Benoni and Vital, parents Alexis and Victoire, and 4 sisters. He was married to Suzanne MERCURE (daughter of Michel MERCURE and François CYR) on 10 Apr 1837 at St-Basile church. He appeared in the 1851 New Brunswick census in St-Basile with Suzanne and children Teodule, Philomenne, Sophia, Benoit, Delize, Joichim, and Denis. He also appeared in the 1861 and 1871 censuses, living in St-Basile.
child ix. Marie Louise CYR was born in 1812.
child x. Vital CYR was born in 1815. He appeared in the 1833 New Brunswick census of Madawaska in a household with his brothers Benoni and Frédéric, along with their parents and four sisters. He was married to Flavie HÉBERT (daughter of Simon HÉBERT and Thècle MARTIN) on 22 Feb 1841 at St-Basile church. He appeared in the 1851 New Brunswick census with his wife and four children, plus three lodgers. He also appeared in the 1861 and 1871 censuses, living in St-Basile. He died in 1892.
child xi. Anastasie CYR was born in 1817.
child xii. Varville CYR was born in 1820. She was married to François-Xavier ALBERT (son of Joseph and Démerise LAGACÉ) on 16 Nov 1840 at St-Basile church.   She appeared in the 1851 New Brunswick Census, in Madawaska, on the bank of the St.John River, living with Xavier, four sons, and two daughters.  She died in 1888.
child xiii. Sophie CYR was born in 1824.
child xiv. Julie CYR was born in 1825. She was married to Raphaël ALBERT (son of Joseph ALBERT and Demerise LAGACÉ) on 21 Nov 1843 at Ste-Luce church. She appeared in the 1850 US census in Hancock Plantation (now eastern part of Fort Kent), living with Raphaël, his brother Anselme, and his sister Arthemise, and Anselme's wife Marguerite. She appeared in the 1851 New Brunswick census in Madawaska parish with her husband Raphaël.
