This is a detail from an 1814 map of the Maritime Provinces of British North America and adjacent parts of the US.

This map clearly reflects the British claim to the frontier; the St.John River is well within British territory, while the border is set along the Aroostook River and the "probable range of the height of land" that was supposed to mark the border. Madawaska is marked as "French Settlement." Also marked is the "Indian Village" where the Madawaska meets the St.John
