1. Joseph FRANCK was born about 1832 in Kamouraska, Lower Canada (Québec).

Family #1:

He was married to Angélique VIOLETTE (daughter of Régis VIOLETTE and Modeste MICHAUD) on 4 Jun 1855 in Ste-Luce Church, Frenchville, Maine. (Mariages de Ste-Luce, p.35). Angélique VIOLETTE was born about 1837. She appeared on the 1850 US census, age 13, living with her parents in Hancock Plantation (p.126b).

Joseph FRANCK appears in the census of the mission parish of St.François, taken in December 1857, living in a household that included himself, another adult, and a child.

Joseph FRANCK and Angélique VIOLETTE had the following children:

childi. Mary FRANCK was born on 12 May 1856, and was baptized on 18 May by Fr. Henri Dionne of Ste-Luce Church. Her godparents were Magloire Albert and Rose Labbé. She was listed in the 1860 US Census in Township No.18, Range 7, living in the household of her father Joseph Franck, with Margaret Franck. 1860 US Census, Aroostook Co., Maine, p.476. She was listed in the 1861 New Brunswick census in St-François living in the household of Joseph and Margriet Phrank. (Victoria County, St.François parish, p.11) She appeared in the 1870 US census in Fort Kent, as age 14, living in the household of Joseph and Hortense Frank. (US census, Aroostook County, Maine, Fort Kent (p.3), p.108a)
child ii. Hélène FRANCK was born on 15 May 1858, and was baptized on 16 May by Fr. Henri Dionne of Ste-Luce Church. Her godparents were Thomas Roi and Modeste Michaud. She apparently died before the 1860 census.

Angélique VIOLETTE died between May 1858 and June 1860.

Family #2:

Joseph FRANCK was married to Marguerite (Catherine) VIOLETTE (daughter of Régis VIOLETTE and Modeste MICHAUD), sister of his first wife Angélique, on 5 Nov 1860 in St-François, New Brunswick (Poitras, p.740).

Marguerite VIOLETTE was born about 1842. She appeared on the 1850 US census, age 8, living with her parents in Hancock Plantation (p.126b). Joseph and Marguerite both appeared on the 1860 US Census, in Township No.18, Range 7, Aroostook Co., Maine. Joseph was listed as age 28, a blacksmith born in Canada, living with Margaret Franck, age 18, and Mary Franck, age 4. (1860 US Census, Aroostook Co., Maine, p.476) They appeared in the 1861 New Brunswick census in St-François parish, as Joseph Phrank, 25, blacksmith, and Margriet Phrank, his wife, 20, living with Mary, 5, and Richard, 1. Marguerite VIOLETTE died before Jun 1864. (Victoria County, St.François parish, p.11)

My surmise is that after Angélique's death, her sister Marguerite came to stay with her brother-in-law Joseph, probably to care for Joseph and Angélique's daughter Mary. The 1860 census was taken on June 28th. The 1861 census was taken in late summer or early fall of that year. They moved across the river to St.François sometime between the two censuses, probably before their marriage there in November of 1860. Their son Régis was born at least one year before the 1861 census (otherwise his age would have been listed in months), and thus probably right around the time the couple were married.

Joseph FRANCK and Marguerite/Catherine VIOLETTE had the following children:

childii. Régis FRANCK was born about 1860. He was listed in the 1861 New Brunswick census in St-François parish, as Richard Phrank, age 1, living in household of his parents Joseph and Margriet Phrank. (1861 New Brunswick Census, Victoria Co., St.François parish, p.11). He appeared in the 1870 US census in Fort Kent, Maine, as Regist Frank, age 9, born in Maine, living in the household of Joseph and Hortense Frank. (US census, Aroostook County, Maine, Fort Kent (p.3), p.108a) Régis FRANCK was married to Ozithée MICHAUD (Octave MICHAUD and Philomene LAGACÉ)on 14 May 1888 at Ste Luce church, Frenchville, Maine. (Mariages de Ste-Luce, p.35)

childiii. Céline FRANCK was born about 1862. She was listed in the 1870 US census in Fort Kent as Salina Frank, age 8, born in Maine, living in the household of Joseph and Hortense Frank. (US census, Aroostook County, Maine, Fort Kent (p.3), p.108a)

Family #3:

Joseph FRANCK was married to Hortense SAUCIER (daughter of Germain SAUCIER and Adélaïde Ouellet) on 27 Jun 1864 in Ste-Luce Church, Frenchville, Maine.(156). They appeared in the 1870 US census in Fort Kent, Aroostook County, Maine. Joseph is listed as age 39, blacksmith, born in Canada. Hortense is listed as age 24, born in New Brunswick. Also in the household were Mary (age 14), Regist (9), Salina (8 year old female), Samuel (4), Layor (3 year old female), Gillick (2 year old female), and Joseph (10 months). (US census, Aroostook County, Maine, Fort Kent (p.3), p.108a)
