This page was transcribed from and proofread against the microfilm copy of the 1850 US Census.

Note: Hancock Plantation's population was made up mostly of French-speakers. The census taker seemed not to be familiar with French or French names. Thus very few of the names are spelled correctly, most are a very rough approximation of what the name sounded like to an English speaker who did not know French. For example, Gagnon is written Gormeo. In the remarks, in parentheses, I have noted the actual spelling for those individuals for whom I have specific information; or I have included the information in the popup box annotations explained above. Please see also Information on French names in the 1850 US Census of Aroostook, Maine.
